Stressed? Read This - 5 Wellness Hacks for Stress
College is fun and exciting, but it can also be extremely stressful. You are required to keep up with class schedules, homework assignments, group projects, and hold down an internship in some cases. If you are a member of a fraternity or sorority, you are required to attend meetings, plan events, and socialize often. Stress might be a normal part of life, but we can manage it. Consider these five wellness hacks for stress when you are a college student.
Sip Valerian Tea
When you're stressed about school work, sorority or fraternity recruitment, and other matters of business, it can be difficult to get to sleep at night at a normal hour. If you're having trouble sleeping, try drinking some Valerian tea. It will relax you and help relieve whatever stress you're experiencing at the time. Chamomile is also helpful for relaxing some people.
Just don’t drink this tea right before you go to class because it could make you fall asleep while your professor is lecturing!
Music Therapy
Music is soothing to the mind, body, and soul. Listening to a calm, relaxing playlist for just an hour can do a lot for your stress symptoms. Take about 30 minutes out of your day to compile a playlist on whichever music service you prefer, and name it “My Music Therapy.” Put it on whenever you are feeling a bit stressed.
Do a 5 Minute Yoga Stretch
Yoga exercises can help relieve stress. When you stretch your muscles, bones, and tendons it relaxes your body and eases your mind. You won't have to do it for very long to get results. You can find five-minute yoga videos on YouTube that you can do in between studying or classes.
Also, if you have a safe space to do your Yoga routine outdoors, that is the best place. Doing your stretches early in the morning when the sun rises will help set a good tone for your day. Make sure you put on your favorite Greek activewear before you head out.
Think of a Good Place
If you could be anywhere in the world, where would that be? A mountain in Europe? A beach in the Caribbean? A festival in Canada? When you are feeling stressed and overwhelmed, close your eyes and think of that place. Meditate on it to the point where you feel like you are actually there. Release all of what you are stressing about, if only for a moment.
Do One Productive Thing Each Day
Doing something productive can help ease stress and worry. It could be something as simple as washing one dish in your sink, or making up your bed, or writing one paragraph for your paper that's coming due. Maybe it’s time to organize and update your fraternity or sorority clothing collection. Just do it. It will help take your mind over whatever it is you were stressing about. Sometimes we feel obligated to do one specific thing when we can do something else to motivate us to get the other thing done.
Explore these wellness hacks for how to relieve stress as a college student, especially if you are also juggling the tasks of being a fraternity or sorority member. This could help you get through the semester and eventually to graduation day without much worry or drama.
