Kappa Delta is a sorority hat was founded on October 23, 1897 at the State Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia. The group is just one of four sororities that was founded at the school, earning it a place in the Farmville Four. Today, there are 166 active chapters of Kappa Delta, with over 200,000 women being inducted into the sorority's ranks throughout its long history.

The History of Kappa Delta

Founded on October 23, 1897, Kappa Delta was the first sorority to be established on the campus of Longwood University, in Farmville, Virginia. Today, Kappa Delta has more than 230,00 members, more than 14,000 of whom are undergraduate members participating in the sorority through its 165 collegiate chapters. Aside from those active chapters, Kappa Delta also maintains 510 alumnae chapters, which makes it the largest of any National Panhellenic Conference group. Built on the ideas of helping women strive for “that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest,” Kappa Delta has a long history of supporting women in their pursuits of personal, academic, and mental excellence. Since its inception, the sorority has graduated many notable members, including Ali Landry, former Miss USA and a notable actress, Georgia O'Keeffe, Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient, and Leigh Anne Roberts Tuohy, upon whom the film The Blind Side was based. Kappa Delta participates in several philanthropic efforts, ranging from the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A to Prevent Child Abuse America, and Children’s Hospital of Richmond, Virginia. One of the largest and most active sororities in existence, there’s no question that Kappa Delta will continue working hard to support and uplift its members, and the communities and cities in which they live and work.
