Delta Upsilon

Delta Upsilon is a fraternity that was founded on November 4, 1834 at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The group holds the distinction of being the sixth oldest, all-male Greek-lettered organization in North America. There are over 65 active chapters and seven colonies, though more than 155 chapters have been formed since the fraternity's founding. There are nearly 4,000 current undergraduate members of DU and over 110,000 lifetime initiates.

The History of Delta Upsilon

Delta Upsilon was founded on the campus of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts on November 4, 1834. While the fraternity got its start on private, New England campuses, it has since extended to maintain 76 chapters throughout the U.S. and Canada.  Over the years, the fraternity has graduated a shocking number of notable and successful alumni, including U.S. President James A. Garfield, Canadian Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, notable writer Kurt Vonnegut.

Delta Upsilon’s alumni also make up forty-two members of the U.S. Congress, three members of Canada’s Parliament, and even one member of the Imperial House of Peers in Japan. As if that weren’t enough, it is also home to six Nobel Prize winners, five Olympic gold medalists, and one Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient.
