The History of Phi Sigma Rho
Phi Sigma Rho was founded in 1984 by two friends: Rashmi Khanna and Abby McDonald. The two women were frustrated because they were barred from participating in traditional sorority celebrations, such as rush, because their engineering programs were so demanding. Frustrated, the women decided to start their own organization, instead.
The first chapter included ten members. Since then, the organization has expanded to have thirty-nine national chapters. Its mission is to maintain high standards of integrity, lifelong relationships and sisterhood, and an insistence on academic excellence.
