Alpha Sigma Phi, or Alpha Sig for short, is a fraternity that was founded at Yale in 1845, making it the 10th oldest Greek letter fraternity in the United States. The group how includes 179 active chapters and over 100,000 lifetime members. The fraternity's motto is, "To better the man," and members are active in various service projects their communities.

The History of Alpha Sigma Phi

Alpha Sigma Phi was founded by three brothers at Yale on December 6, 1845. The original members of the fraternity were poets, athletes, and scholars who wanted a place to create brotherhood and support one another. Today, the fraternity has more than 147 total groups, including 6 interest groups and 26 provisional chapters. Alpha Sigma Phi is the 10th oldest fraternity in the U.S. and is best known for its motto, “The cause is hidden, the results well-known,” and its colors: cardinal and stone. The organization has more than 70,000 living alumni and has is currently providing opportunities to more than 6,000 undergraduate students. Notable members of Alpha Sigma Phi have included John Kasich, Governor of Ohio, Ted Cassidy, best known as Lurch on The Addams Family, Warren Buffett, Warren Buffett, the second wealthiest person in the world, and Robin Reed, Olympic Gold Medalist in wrestling.
