Kappa Kappa Psi

Kappa Kappa Psi is a national band fraternity that was began on November 27, 1919 at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, now known a Oklahoma State University. The group is commonly known as KKPsi and primarily operates as a recognition society for band members. To date, there have been more than 66,000 student musicians inducted into KKPsi.

The History of Kappa Kappa Psi

Kappa Kappa Psi was founded on the campus of Oklahoma State University on November 27, 1919. Today, the organization has more than 60,000 active men and women in its ranks, and more than 6,000 current collegiate members. Previous notable members of Kappa Kappa Psi include former President Bill Clinton, famous astronaut Neil Armstrong, Herman B. Wells, the eleventh president of Indiana University, and notable jazz pianist Count Basie.

Kappa Kappa Psi has 209 active chapters and 315 charter chapters. Its official publication is The Podium, and its motto is “Strive for the highest.” The organization’s colors are blue and white and its official flower is the red carnation. It currently has its headquarters in Stillwater, Oklahoma and works to support local programs and activities from blood drives to the renovation of musical rehearsal spaces across the country.

The organization also aims to “provide a pleasant and helpful social experience for all engaged in college band work” and works to support this by hosting post-concert receptions and facilitating social programming.

Today, Kappa Kappa Psi continues to maintain its mission of hard work and service, and uplifts everyone lucky enough to be a member.
